Most social media sites allow you to upload just about any image regardless of size or dimensions. However, if you upload an image that is the right size, the image quality will be much better, and you can ensure the subject of your photo is displayed properly.
The optimal image sizes for Twitter are as follows:
- Header Image: recommended dimensions are 1500×500 pixels
- Profile Image: recommended dimensions are 400×400 pixels
Most graphic design programs let you set image size. The Paint program in Windows has a size adjustment option. Presentation software like PowerPoint or Apple Keynote are helpful programs for designing headers and profile images.
Below are the instructions from the Twitter website describing how to set header and profile images.
